Markel Spain wins broker votes for service

Markel International’s Spanish business has been voted one of the top three specialist insurers by members of ADECOSE, the country’s largest and most influential broker association. In a survey of 115 brokers, the Spanish operation, based in Madrid and Barcelona, was also ranked in the top ten for overall customer service, beating established insurance brands including Zurich, Aviva and AIG.

ADECOSE, whose broker members manage around 70% of premiums in the Spanish market, runs the annual survey, which consists of 785 broker interviews. Insurers are rated on areas including product proposition, technology and overall customer service. Markel Spain first took part in the survey back in 2011, when it held agencies with around 30% of the overall membership. Three years on and the Spanish operation now has in place formal agency agreements with over 60% of the association membership.

Markel Spain’s managing director, Esteban Manzano, said: “We are delighted to be held in such high regard by our broker partners. Our challenge now is to develop our technology proposition even further so we can compete with the larger insurance firms in the region and provide brokers with even better service and value.”
